I am assuming that this refers to the tram that goes up to the lighthouse and down again. It's a comfortable, scenic ride and a lovely experience especially if you are accompanied by very old people or very young kids. Important to note: kids under six can ride the tram for free , obviously accompanied by their adult.
We used the Flying Dutchman Funicular to go up to the New Cape Point Lighthouse and come down. It was a fun experience and a great alternative to walking up to the lighthouse, saving us a lot of time. We paid R95 each for the return ticket and did not have to wait long when we visited at the end of August 2023.
Allows for great views while traveling both up and down, well managed and timing between trips are very often so the wait isn't long
Great alternative if you don't feel like walking up to the lighthouse. They are also affected by South Africa's power woes. We had to wait half an hour for the funicular to open due to power outages.
It was so much fun especially for me as I could not walk up the path because of my breathing issues. Smooth ride and I had no concerns on the way up.
The view at the top is spectacular but the line was not really visible on the day due to hectic winds.
Cost was R80 per person
( entry fee at the main gate not included )
I have mixed feelings about this place.
First of all, I thought the class system was abolished in SA in the 90s. Tourists pay 3 times the cost to enter. And for what you get, it's not cheap. 1400 rands for 2 adults and 3 children (We did the NZ version for free).
When you get to the flying dutchman, there is an additional charge.
Saying that, the park is very well kept and the views are really lovely.
We went for a walk on the beach and saw 2 ostrich, a heard of antelope, a tortoise, a few boks and a zebra.
When we were at the light house, we saw a massive pod of dolphins, maybe up to 100.
This soften our cough a bit with the entry fee. If we did not see these animals, I would not recommend it, but we did, and it was a brilliant experience, and the entry fee was justified for us. (Were we lucky 🤷‍♂️)
Don’t miss this cart out.
It takes you up the hill to lighthouse with 95R (2 ways) and 80R for one way.
A great and convenient way to go up the way instead of walking/hiking up for a small amount of money. This cute little Tram/funicular can help you avoid the walk/hike up and get to the lighthouse in 4-5 mins. I would recommend it if you’re with family to avoid wasting time.
